The ReSMiQ, known originaly as GRIAO, was founded in 1985 by four Montréal institutions: Concordia University, École Polytechnique de Montréal, McGill University and Université de Montréal. The center is geared toward advanced research in computer and system architectures, analog and mixed-signal circuit design, testing and verification, system-Level design and applications such as telecommunications, biomedical devices, RF circuits and signal processing algorithms and circuits.
Microelectronics technology and microsystems design plays a fundamental part in applications requiring portable devices operating at great speed or with low power consumption. These technologies are one of the most essential aspects of any modern economy. As a matter of fact, it can be considered the enabling technology for an increasing number of industrial areas and services. The center facilitates the emergence of industrial innovations and the development of state-of-the-art technology in many areas of application in microelectronics and Microsystems.
Considering microelectronics' great progress, we recently redefined our program towards microsystems research. This will result in new collaborative links between members and optimistically attract new ones. In order to highlight this new orientation, it was deemed necessary to change the center's name to Microsystems Strategic Alliance of Québec (ReSMiQ). However, ReSMiQ’s goal remains the same, to further develop its relevance with local industry, and to emphasize collaboration between our members and students.
Presently, the Centre regroups 36 researchers and honorary members and more than 200 students working on a large variety of projects. In order to meet its objectives, ReSMiQ receives an annual contribution from the “Fonds québecois de la recherche sur la nature et les technologies (FQRNT)”and from institutional members.
